An accomplished and passionate activist since the age of eight, Marina Gatto is a constant fixture in the media, as a spokesperson and leader for the LGBT community. As a child of two lesbian moms, Ramona & Arzu Gatto, Marina educates people nationwide about LGBT families and about the pride she has in her family, and as a leader of the LGBT community. At 14 years of age she ran her own workshop for school educators at the "Overcoming Homophobia For Youth" Conference in San Francisco. The workshop was entitled "Making Schools Safer For Diversity" and her goal was to teach educators how to make their classes more welcoming for students that come from LGBT families. . . . . Civil Rights Division Undergoing Upheaval
The Justice Department's Civil Rights Division, which has enforced the nation's anti-discrimination laws for nearly half a century, is in the midst of an upheaval that has driven away dozens of veteran lawyers and has damaged morale for many of those who remain, according to former and current career employees. Nearly 20 percent of the division's lawyers left in fiscal 2005, in part because of a buyout program that some lawyers think was aimed at pushing out those who did not share the administration's conservative views on civil rights laws.
